About the Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund
The Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund helps make Catholic education accessible and affordable for families throughout the Diocese of Columbus.

​Established in 2021, the Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund connects the generosity of donors with students who can benefit from the academic excellence, faith formation, and lifelong foundation of a Catholic education.

Our Mission
The mission of the Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund is to open doors to educational opportunities by providing scholarships to students and families who may otherwise face financial barriers. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their God-given potential in an environment that supports their academic, personal, and spiritual development.

Through the generosity of our donors and community partners, we help make quality education more accessible, strengthen families, and invest in the future of our communities. Our goal is not simply to provide financial assistance, but to create opportunities that can change the course of a student’s life.

2021
Where It Began
A new Ohio tax credit created an opportunity for taxpayers to support K–12 scholarships while receiving a dollar-for-dollar credit against their Ohio income tax liability.

The Diocesan Education Corporation was established in 2021 and became the first certified Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) in Ohio.
2022
Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund
The organization was recertified as Diocesan Education Corporation, dba Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund.

​The new name better reflected our mission—connecting our work to the journey of Christ and His disciples on the Road to Emmaus.

The Journey Continues
Today, the Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund brings together donors, families, schools, parishes, and communities with a shared purpose.
Significance of the Name "Emmaus Road"
Our name is inspired by the Road to Emmaus in the Gospel of Luke.
In Luke's Gospel, we hear the beautiful story of the road to Emmaus. Following his Resurrection, Jesus encounters two of his disciples as they leave Jerusalem, discouraged and struggling to make sense of all that had happened. Jesus does not simply give them an answer and send them on their way. Instead, he walks with them. He listens to them, enters into their conversation, opens the Scriptures to them, and gradually leads them to see the events of his Passion and Resurrection in a new light.
It is only when they reach Emmaus and Jesus breaks bread with them that their eyes are opened and they recognize him. Looking back on their journey, they say to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way?”

This is the heart of Catholic education: accompaniment. We want our schools to be places where young people encounter Christ and are accompanied on the journey of faith where their hearts are opened to the truth, beauty, and goodness of Jesus Christ. Through their generosity to the Emmaus Road Scholarship Fund, our donors become part of that journey. Their gifts help make a Catholic education possible for students and families who might otherwise be unable to afford it. In doing so, they accompany these young people along the road, helping create the conditions in which their hearts, too, can be opened to Christ.
